Delete your account

In the app

1. Open Verus and go to the You tab.
2. Choose Delete your account.
3. Confirm. That is the whole of it.

On the Mac app it is in the same place, under your address at the top of the sidebar.

What that removes, immediately

• Your address and the public keys published under it, so nobody can start a new conversation with you.
• Every undelivered message waiting for you, and every encrypted attachment.
• Your devices, and any notification token, so nothing can wake the app again.
• Any verification claim attached to the address, and the hashed reference to the Confrmo account behind it.
• Everything on the device: your keys, your conversations and your contacts.

Because the account is a key rather than a record about a person, deleting it does not leave a shell behind that could be reactivated. The address stops resolving and nothing can be issued under it again.

What it cannot reach, and why

Messages you already sent are on other people's devices, and Verus has no way to reach into them. That is the same property that stops anyone else reaching into yours.

Operational logs, which record that an address existed and when it registered, age out on their usual thirty day cycle rather than being deleted on the spot, because deleting them on demand would make them useless for the abuse handling they exist for.

If you verified with Confrmo, your Confrmo account is a separate thing that Verus does not control. Deleting Verus removes the claim; deleting the Confrmo account is done in Confrmo.

If you cannot get into the app

An account you cannot open cannot be deleted by us on request, because we have no way to tell that it is yours: there is no email, no phone number and no password to check against. Nothing here is a lock you need our help with, though. An address nobody collects from is burnt automatically after thirty days.
