Verus and the UN Sustainable Development Goals

Being able to talk privately is part of being free to speak at all. Verus is private calling and messaging that anyone can use without a phone number, and that is the part of the UN goals we work on.

UN Sustainable Development Goal 16: Peace, justice and strong institutions

Goal 16, target 16.10: access to information and fundamental freedoms

Target 16.10 asks countries to ensure public access to information and to protect fundamental freedoms. Private conversation is one of them, and it depends on more than encryption: an app that knows who you talk to can be made to say so.

  • No phone number and no sign-up. Your address is made on your own device, so there is no number tying you to a SIM card or a name.
  • No record of who spoke to whom. Messages and calls are end-to-end encrypted, and the service keeps no list of your contacts or conversations.
  • Anonymous until you choose otherwise. You can prove who you are with Confrmo Ltd at the moment it matters, and only then.
UN Sustainable Development Goal 9: Industry, innovation and infrastructure

Goal 9, target 9.c: access to communications technology

Target 9.c is to increase access to information and communications technology significantly. A messenger that needs a phone number leaves out everybody who does not have one, or cannot safely register one in their own name.

  • Free where it matters. The encryption, the translation on your own device and identity verification cost nothing. Paying buys capacity, not privacy.
  • In your own language. Messages are translated on your device, so people can talk without a shared language and without the words passing through a translation service.
  • A network people can host. Calls travel over the Verus Relay network, which has relays on several continents, including some hosted by members of the public. The live map shows every relay online now.

UN Global Compact

Verus Communications Ltd applied to join the UN Global Compact on 2 October 2026 and the application is under review. The Compact asks its participants to support ten principles on human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption, and to report on their progress every year.

Once accepted, Verus Communications Ltd will appear in the Compact's public list of participants, which anyone can search on the UN Global Compact website. We will report our progress here.
